Knowing Math

Charlotte Mason said “one must know math, in order to teach it.”

What did she mean by this? I’m still struggling to teach concepts to my children and it makes me second guess if I really “know,” math.

Currently we use MMM, where the dialogue is written out for you. It has tons of repetition and practice, hands-on, but for some reason we still struggle.

Especially word problems. I’m not sure if it is lack of mental effort or lack of understanding on my part.
