I have a K, 2nd & 3rd grader doing a PACE program right now in English and Lit./Cr. Writing. They are all boys and don’t like all the writing. I like the idea of doing copywork and trying to get out of all the constant writing with them. Any suggestions on how to switch and what you would suggest for them? I am hearing EFF???, Language lessons and a couple other. How do I pick they all seem the same?

That’s a tough one; they are all pretty similar. I guess I’d probably do process of elimination at this point. For example, if money is a factor, go with the one that you can access for free online. If you don’t want to get hung up on some out-of-date processes, eliminate Serl’s. If you want some modern examples and sentences thrown in, go with Queen’s Language Lessons. If you don’t want modern examples, go with EFTTC. Does that make sense or just muddy the waters more?

As far as making the transition, you might take a week off to “reset” and let them know that you found something you like better and think they will like better. Briefly explain how it is different (not as much writing, shorter lessons) and that you’re excited about starting it next week. You might want to do copywork every other day and the new English book on the other days to ease into things. Or just make the switch and you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised at how quickly they’ll follow and adjust. Most children are amazingly resilient. 🙂

Thank you.. I think I will do exactly that. I am so excited to make this transition and I feel the Lord is leading us with this each day.
