I have decided to use JAG for my 5th grader next year.  Could someone please tell me if the teachers guides are necessary?  I want to get both the grammar and mechanics student books, but they are quite pricey.  I am wondering if I can shave some of the cost by skimping on the guides.

    Thanks so much!

Just my opinion, but I would not want to do w/o the teacher’s guide for grammar.  I could have figured it out, but it would have taken me a lot of time to do it.  Each lesson is 5 sentences that they label every single word w/what part of speech it is.  Then they diagram each sentence.  Plus  a few questions.  I feel that grammar took me enough time to grade even using the teacher guide:)

I don’t have the mechanics book…so can’t help there.  Though I would think that fixing punctuation errors would be obvious and quicker than the grammar section.  Just my .02:)  Gina
