    I am considering using Jack’s Insects this upcoming school year with my 9 year old son.  If you have used this, did you and your children like it?  Was the guide beneficial?  I have searched for reviews but have found very few.  Any feedback would be much appreciated!

    So funny that you posted this question.  I was here reading through what I can find on Jack’s Insects.  I am thinking about doing it this summer with my kids 10, 9, 8, 7.  Following along to see what is said.

    We tried to use it in early middle/late elementary.  It did not work for us.  The stories dragged in our opinion and my children were too eager to hear the real science explained.  They read independently and narrated orally.  It didn’t spark any interest.  They weren’t inspired to ask for more, to look things up, to explore the ideas more … which is my sign of a great science books.

    To be honest that was our experience with most of the suggested living science.  We opted to design our own reading lists and that worked well for us.
