I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I looked and was unable to find anything. My oldest two kiddos (dd7 and ds6) love to write stories and make books. My dd is a very proficient reader, but my son is not. My question – how do I handle misspellings in their “non-school” creative work? I don’t want to stifle creativity, but I also don’t want them looking at their own incorrectly spelled words! They both have excellent fine motor skills, and use our Bible verses as copywork. They are both too young for the recommended age to begin Spelling Wisdom and written narrations.

Just not sure how to handle that – any suggestions?

Sonya mentions this in the all day seminar DVD.  She said when it comes to creative writing you don’t correct it, but when they are doing spelling/dictation they need to learn to write it correctly.  In creative writing the focus is their creativity.  If they ask how to spell something then you can tell them how to spell it, but if they don’t ask and they misspell it then don’t correct it.
