Can anyone give me feedback good or bad on this book? I typically read aloud Sonlight books and this is scheduled for 2nd grade, but for whatever reason it’s just not appealing to me. The reviews are not necessarily bad, I’m just wondering if it’s purely entertainment or if there is any moral/educational value to reading it. Thanks so much, Melissa
Oh….and I’d be reading it to a 1st grade boy and 2nd grade girl. Thanks!
BookwormParticipantI think these are more entertainment. My boys all read them, in the third-fourth-fifth grade age ranges I believe, and enjoyed them, but I’ve personally never read them aloud. There are so many others! LOL
Tecrz1ParticipantI loved these books as a child! I was going to read them aloud to my children but I forgot about the cowboys penchant for drinking and coarse language so I thought I’d wait a bit for my young ones. I don’t think they are overtly educational but you do learn quite a bit about Indians and cowboy lifestyles. I was obsessed with Indians for a while when reading these. To me they are kind of in between twaddle and a living book – the gray area if you like! But so much fun!

LindseyDParticipantMy ds7 has read this book on his own. He really likes it, but I don’t read it aloud. He wants to read the sequel as well, but he’s got so many other books going right now that I’m asking him to get those wrapped up before we start another book.
Maybe it can be a book Daddy reads to them? Or your older one could read it in small chunks to your younger one? Or read it by himself?
I agree w/ Bookworm…there are lots better books to read aloud.
RobinPParticipantI read them aloud when my now 21yos was probably 8ish. He loved them. I’m sure my current 7 and 8yos would as well but as others have said, they’re not great literature…just a fun sidetrack.
greenebaltsParticipantThank you so much….that’s exactly what I was looking for. Merry Christmas to you all Melissa
