DS6 wants to know why the days are shorter in the winter. I’ve tried explaining it but I can’t seem to in a way that he understands. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone know of any good living books about space? Thanks!!
vikingkirkenParticipantA globe and a lamp without a lampshade?
albanyaloeParticipantWell, I don’t think CM would call these Living Books, she may even call them twaddle but both of those questions were answered for all my children with Usborne books. Iwas a little shocked by Usborne books at first, they seemed so cartoony, but my son lapped them up, still does, and reads them for leisure.
I’m sorry I just cannot recall the titles but I know we ordered from Sonlight in those days. There are many Usborne titles that overlap. The pictures are also very helpful; showing the sequence of the seasons.
We also used the globe and a torch. Do you know, this is embarassing, but it was only when I taught my son, with the Usborne book, at age 20 something, that I clicked about the earth being tilted and how the seasons come about? Actually Usborne has helped explain so many things to my unscientific brain that I think they must be good.
Have fun learning,
Lindy
srlordParticipantHere is a prior discussion about living science books, with numerous helpful lists:

HSMom03ParticipantAll of these lists are great, thank you! I’ll check out the Usborne books too… thank you all!
