I’ve been using SW as copywork then transcription (within the same week) with my 3rd-grade daughter, who is almost 9 years old. I think at this point she would benefit from moving toward prepared dictation to strengthen her spelling skills. How many lessons per week are typically accomplished with SW when it is used as intended?

I have a 3rd grader myself and we only do 1 lesson per week right now because he struggles with spelling.  We somtimes have to stay on the same lesson for 2 weeks.  I rather he get it than just plow him through. He is learning how to spell common words which is what I’m after. 🙂 We are really enjoying SW!

Thank you! My daughter is an average speller, which is why I think we need to move to prepared dictation along with the good books we read toghether and that she reads independently. The cw and transcription wasn’t giving her enought push to commit even simple words to memory. I think we will start with one dictation passage a week. You’re right, no rush. If anyone else has another thought, I’d love to hear.

We are 10 weeks into our school year, and this is our first time to use SW. We are getting 2 lessons in per week, but I suspect that will drop down to 1 as the passages get longer and more difficult with punctuation. I think 1 per week is fine too. And, we don’t use it for copywork. I hand him the book, he studies the passage, we go over any words he’s unsure of, then I dictate. Pretty simple and easy!
