Hello, I am using SWR (Spell to Write and Read) and am starting out handwriting with the recommended Cursive First program. The thing I am wondering is how to pace it. SWR recommends getting to dictating spelling words a.s.a.p., but I’m finding it hard for my 5 yr old girl to learn to write her letters very fast. I’ve heard it said to learn to write a-z in 2 weeks and move on even if not mastered! Another mom in the forum said her kiddo learned to write beautifully in 2 months. Yet another mom said she’s been working on “a” and “c” (the first two letters to learn) for 4 months!

I used Cursive First w/ dd14 when she was 6 or so. It took about 2 months with twice a day practice and she had the letters down.

Fast forward to today and I am about to start with ds5. I am no longer using SWR or CF, but similar programs and we will spell with letter tiles and Sound Literacy app and take the actual writing more slowly. I have a goal of 1-2 letters per week.
