I am working on our daughters high school plan.  I have been brain storming different ideas for electives and trying to think of things that she is already involved with or would like to be involved with that I can give her credit for.  What have you or do you plan on your high schooler doing for electives?

Too much to list with multiple children.

Some are requirements that I have for all such as health, basic computer, logic, etc.

I require two years of foreign language for all.

It ranges from Small Engines to Bible Telling which is how to tell Bible stories to people, like missionaries do.

HSLDA has ideas, as does Christian Light Education, and browsing the Rainbow Resource catalog helps.

I have worked backwards too, and made courses around what my kids are doing naturally, like computer coding.

We get fine arts credits for the CM components of composer study, etc.  My kids get music credits for piano lessons and practice, and choir productions.  Some of this is only listed as activities,  because the transcript would be ridiculous if I listed everything.

I heard that as a homeschooler, you want your transcript to look ordinary.  The activities lists, volunteer opportunities, etc. are where you can stand out.

It made sense to me that you want colleges to think that you are just another private school.

When my son started high school 8 years ago, our evaluator told me not to worry about electives-that homeschoolers always end up having too many and having to pare down for the transcript. We have found that to be true in our homeschool.

My son ended up with way too many. I can’t remember them all, but some were:

    Driver’s Ed

    Guitar 1, 2, 3, and 4

    Carpentry

    Personal Finance

My daughter is finishing up 10th grade. Here are some of hers:

    Piano 1 and 2

    German 1

    Driver’s Ed

    Career Exploration

They can also get credit for part time jobs and community service.
