First question is, does your state have any requirements that must be met? Ours does 🙂

We do History 4 days/week, Geography 1 day/week, Science 3 days/week and try to get nature walk once/week.

Student reading aloud, math, copy work (or transcription or dictation prep) are done daily. Written narrations are started 4th grade (partnership with me and usually solo by 5th grade) which adds to History and Science. Once or twice/week depending on the student and increased each year.

Enrichments – Hymn Study, Picture Study, Poetry, Music Study, art… are spread over the  week doing one or two/day.

Daily they also have piano practice, math fact practice on the computer (TimzAttack) and typing practice.

All the above takes 3-4 hours. There are breaks in there, and it is not all seat work, some I read, some they do, and some is on the computer. My youngest in 1st has more time to play, and does not do all the above, his seat work is A LOT less but my older two 4th and 6th grade it seems appropriate work load.

Every family is different, but for us the older the student, there is going to be more work than younger and each year progresses more and more.

I can’t remember where they are at, but there was a list with expected approximate time spent per subject.
