    We are stuck.

Yes, it is just one half hour into Christmas Eve, and I’m trying to figure out how to get DD18 some help with Math-U-See Lesson 29, Age and Boat in the Current Problems.  That is the ONLY lesson she has left before she graduates high school.  She has worked independently through most of the course; she had a tutor for the first 10 lessons and since then has done very well, carrying a B+ average.  She tells me that, after a few days of working on the lesson, she is “failing” the worksheets so far.  She has watched some YouTube videos that explain the conepts (even the Pocket Roni videos that are specific to MUS, even though she hates those videos).  She does not feel confident enough to take the lesson test.

So, does anyone have any ideas where we might find help with this lesson?  We are crazy busy getting ready to move on the 29th, so there isn’t much time to complete this.  Any suggestions for clarity on this would be appreciated.

    Merry Christmas!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>There’s a really helpful Math U See Facebook page.  There are always lesson questions posted for others to help answer.   If I remember correctly, I believe there is a MUS staff member on the site to help as well.  Merry Christmas!</p>

Thanks, I’ll pass that along to DD.  I’m not on Facebook, but she is.

We are moving in 2 days, but I don’t care if she doesn’t finish this last lesson until January.  I’m counting her as a 2018 grad!

(Maybe I should just forget this lesson, issue her final grade, and we’re done….would make a great belated Christmas gift…..shhhh, don’t tell the high school diploma police!)

I was actually going to suggest that, if that is all that is left consider her completed. She has a solid passing grade for a challenging math year and even if she took the test and did not do amazing, she would still have the passing grade, one test does not ruin the year of hard work 🙂 There are students that miss part of their school year due to health issues, natural disasters, and other things and they still graduate. Often I have heard it said that 80% completion of a text book is considered a completed text book.

80%, huh?  When I was a kid, I always wondered why we never finished the entire textbook in most subjects.  I have a friend who told me she always feared that, over the summer, someone from her school would show up and force her to go to the school building to finish the book!

So, that’s it.  We’re done.  “The Educated Chicken” has become “The Graduated Chicken.”

    Congratulations to your Graduate!!!

I am not sure where I have heard the 80% but I have heard it more than once and I know that my time at community college we never finished a text book and I have heard from more than one student that they often do not finish a text book in a year in highschool and it is considered completed.
