All of my dc from the 11 yo on down, give thier best effort IF I am sitting right beside them – do any of you deal with this?  I am trying to train the younger ones in the habit of FULL ATTENTION but the older ones, especially, seem to just rush through thier work to check it off thier list.

    Any ideas?  Thoughts?

We are going through the habit of attention this term in Laying Down the Rails and this has helped quite a bit but we still need improvement.

I don’t know which subject (or maybe it’s all subjects) it is happening with, but for copywork/handwriting, poor math lessons, etc. they have to re-do the lesson.  So when they bring it to me for a check, if the copywork is sloppy and I know it’s not their best effort, they erase it all and do it again, and the same for most other individual lessons.  It has only taken a couple days of that to fix the problem.  They learned they get done much quicker if they do it correctly the first time.

Thanks for this idea!  I will try this.
