I have been going back and forth between using MFW and using SCM. I used MFW K, 1st, 2nd, and now we are doing ECC. I am adding to ECC but I do love it because I love geography and missions. My kids are enjoying it but we are doing CM enrichment and following a more CM style for some of our Language arts and Math etc. I am wondering for those of you who have done the 5 year cycle of MFW and then switched to SCM history or another history and following SCM or CM homeschool, can you tell me how it has gone? What do you kids like about the switch? My kids love to read and to color, so they like the student sheets in MFW, but we haven’t gotten into the history yet. I have looked at the books in the history cycle of MFW and I am not sure if we will like them. My son loves pictures, so he might enjoy the usborne books, but I don’t know how much they will learn and retain. However, they like the hands on activities and I wonder if they will think SCM is lacking or feel more “bored”? I personally would choose to follow SCM as I love it, but I am not sure my kids will. My son who is almost 9 (he is the oldest) didn’t like SCM spelling and didn’t like MUS. He actually prefers Rod and staff spelling and Singapore math. Now that I bought those I am going to continue using them with my other kids. My kids do like SCM enrichment and I love it too. I love the flexiblility of SCM and don’t like being confined by the lesson plans of MFW. But when I don’t have lesson plans I worry that I am not doing enough or that I won’t be consistent enough (my personality is an ENFP on the myers briggs, so I would rather just have fun and have a loose schedule!). ..

Can you tell me your experience and thoughts? Thanks,

    GRace
