I’m planning on starting with module 1 with my first grader this coming school year.  What is the difference between the SCM study guide for Module 1 and reading Greenleaf’s Guide to the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt?  Can anyone help me?  I got bought both of those books because they were recommened by another homeschooling mom and now I’m confused if I need SCM book as well.

The Greenleaf Guides give some hands-on projects ideas and divide up the readings, as SCM handbooks do. The main differences I see are

    1. SCM incorporates more books in the readings.
    2. Greenleaf gives discussion questions.
    3. Greenleaf’s Old Testament guide covers the whole Old Testament, whereas SCM covers it over two years and in two different handbooks.

You might find it helpful to download the sample of the SCM handbook so you can compare it with the Greenleaf guide that you have in hand.
