I was poking around on Memoria Press’ website and discovered wonderful Geography books for map drill. I’ve been wanting to add a bit to our geography studies (fun facts, capitals, etc.) and these books have it laid out so nicely! Actually, I find I like the layout of most of their things I’ve seen. Perhaps, I should bite the bullet and try some.

The books are sort of mis-filed, I think under American-Modern. There are 3 sets: States and Capitals; Geography I; Geography II. I think I’ll be using these in the coming year!

I like what I have seen of Memoria Press, too.  I have to admit that I bought the teacher’s guide for Famous Men of Greece – and there are several things in there that I really appreciate having for our studies and the maps are one of them.  I am using The Story of Greece for our spine, adding in the Famous Men of Greece as appropriate.  The maps really help us keep it all straight (at least in my head!).

I like the looks of these as well.  Thanks for sharing.  Next year we are doing Ancient Rome, so the Geography I looks very promising. =)

I am so excited to see this post, because I am often trying to find ways to merge Memoria Press with Charlotte Mason as I research curriculum.  I think the Latin Centered Curriculum, or traditional Classical education, is very similar to CM philosophy. I’ve posted on MP’s forums trying to find out if anyone there uses CM methods but haven’t found anyone yet. 🙂  Their materials look top-notch, and I think it would be very easy to use less workbooks and more discussion. I love the look of their read-aloud selections, copywork books, and the concept of starting cursive in first grade. Have I mentioned my daughters are only 3 and 2? 🙂

http://www.memoriapress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11371 is a thread I recently started on the MP forums discussing workbooks and why people seem either for or against them.

http://www.angelinainlouisiana.blogspot.com is a lovely example of someone combining traditional Classical with CM, and she has used a lot of MP products.

    Blessings,

    Jessica

I thought I would bump this up. I received my order from MP today and these books are terrific. Yes, I can print maps as I’ve done for years, but these are all laid out beautifully and ready to go. There is even some built in review from previous studies. Overall, these will make a welcome addition to our homeschool by further simplifying what I’m already doing.

OK, well, hmm. On first glance, I loved these books, but I found two errors in the States and Capitals book this evening. Also, I’ve discovered the outlines are a bit simplified for the states. I’m going to continue looking through all of the different ones to see if this was an isolated thing or not, but I wanted to post the warning since I sang the praises so highly.

I’ve spent considerable time with the MP States and Capitals book now and will be returning it. I am not pleased with the shape simplification. I’m going to look over the Geo. I books tonight, but I think those will be returned also. It’s unfortunate because the clean line printing and the layout are terrific, but I want to see things like Pugent Sound as they are, not simplified versions.

    Sorry for sharing too soon.
