Which globes are good quality? I looked on amazon, but the choices are overwhelming.

Do you like flat maps over globes or do you think both have their place in studying history and geography?

We have and use both. Nothing too pricey, just simple and clear.

We don’t have many electronic things but this one my children really love, use and learn with:

Well, I don’t know how to put a link here.  Look on Amazon for LeapFrog Explorer Smart Globe.  I have no idea why it is $280.00 and I can promise we didn’t pay more than $100 and probably closer to $40, though that was many years ago (10?).  I imagine there’s a less expensive way to get one now.  It has broken several times, often from dropping to the ground when the kids were playing with it, but my husband has been able to fix it every time.  He’s quite handy.  My kids love to do the challenges for oceans and continents on it and are just exploring the other challenges.  They also love to listen to the music from different countries.

We have a flat map that got taken down when we were rearranging bedroom and hasn’t been put back up yet. I don’t miss it bc we pull out this globe daily.

I would make sure the globe had a somewhat heavy base, since your dc will be spinning it for many years to come.  If you can, try to get laminated maps because they are more durable and can take map pins, sticky notes just fine and other items just fine.

I’ve had this shower curtain in my library bathroom for years. A big hit. And fun. Got mine at Target.

I actually bought our globe at Costco last fall for around $20, and it’s doing very well.  Like missceegee, needed something simple and clear.  And I have the shower curtain Robin mentioned above as my boys’ closet “door” with a white shower curtain behind it.  🙂  And a large, laminated physical map of the world on their wall.   If you have a USGS office anywhere near you, you can get all sorts of maps (physical, political, contour, etc.) in all kinds of sizes fairly inexpensively.  You may be able to order maps from them online, as well.

I like flat maps AND globes – globes for seeing REAL sizes compared to one another as well as how close Asia and North America really are, flat maps for getting a good grasp of where things are in relation to one another.

Wow! Thank you all so much for your responses. The shower curtain is cracking me up, by the way….I don’t know if hubby will for that…LOL!!!!! It does seem extremely useful though!

    Blessings to you all.

Well it helps that it’s in the library. Not sure it would be fashionable in the main bathroom. 🙂
