I found some ideas on squidoo for making poetry study more creative and thought I’d share a few ideas:
Print out a poem and have your child draw pictures around it.
Put printed poetry, composed poetry, illustrations for poems, and biographies of poets in a Poetry Notebook to foster appreciation of poetry. Also an easy way to review poems you’ve studied and loved.
Color code rhyming words in a poem you are studying.
Does anyone else have some creative ideas for poetry study? Normally we just read a few poems one day per week just to enjoy listening to them, but I wanted to take it up a notch or two!

missceegeeParticipantThe last issue of Homeschooling Today had some neat ideas for both poetry and literature, too.
simple homeMemberA family poetry notebook would be fun. Divide it up in seasons, or by each poet, or maybe just by each child. Place family favorites behind each one. My girls love to decorate and color, so I usually print out some poems online and they decorate accordingly.
Easy fun stuff!
thepinkballerinaParticipantA family poetry notebook would be great! Less folders for me to keep track of! lol
Unfortunately, I don’t get Homeschooling Today.

simple homeMemberYes, less folders indeed! I am doing this with our Ancient Greece study for that reason. 🙂 Each child’s work is kept in our family notebook behind their own personalized divider. I decorated the front with a big photo of the Parthenon. If they want to make their own folder of Ancient Greece one day, they have the work stored in it that they can use.
