    Hello everyone,

I am hoping you can help me!  I am a 3rd year homeschooler, all with CM philosophy.  Our little mission group here on our island in Indonesia has decided to start a co-op once a week and I have been elected to teach Geography/World Cultures to the 4-7th graders (there are 5 of them).

I am at a loss as to what to use with them.  I would love for it to be “classroom” usable, once a week friendly, and follow CM.  Also, whatever it is, would need to be “all-inclusive” meaning I couldn’t run to library to pick up and extra book.  I would need to know the titles of the books and all supplies needed ahead of time (we are getting ready to order).

    Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you so much for your input!!

    Blessings,

    I’ll start the brainstorming. Smile

What about using Material World and Hungry Planet? In each book, the photographer/author traveled the world and photographed one family in each country. In Material World, he photographed the family outside its home with all its belongings in front of the house. In Hungry Planet, he photographed one week’s worth of groceries in the family’s kitchen.

Since the class is small, you could read the author’s descriptions of his time with the various families (Pre-read to make sure they’re appropriate or edit as needed.) and look at the pictures together. Then ask the children to narrate, oral or written. You could focus on one or two countries per week, and locate them on the globe/map as you read about them. If you wanted to do a little map drill activity at the beginning of each class, you could give students a blank world map and have them label/identify the countries you’ve read about so far.
