If you could recommend living books to supplement your geographies studies for high school, what books would you recommend for the study of each continent? For example, when you are studying Europe, what living book would you recommend adding while you study Europe…when you are studying North America, what living book would you recommend adding while you study North America, etc.

Nebby just did a post on this –

    lettersfromnebby.wordpress.com

It’s a great list of books, along with descriptions.  I’ve saved it for future reference.

    Karen,
When I visited the link you gave, I found a post on Geology. However, I didn’t find one that gave a list of books for Geography. Could you share a link to the actual post? Thanks so much!

I had to look back myself. I did post on geography once:

But the recent one is geology. If you haven’t ever done it, I would do Halliburton’s Book of Marvels even with high schoolers. We are loving it.

Thanks Nebby. I know many recommend Book of Marvels. I’m wondering if there are other books that can also be recommended for various regions though like how SCM has the various picture books, etc. on the recommended reading lists in each of the Visits to… series.

A few others I can think of:

    A Traveler in Rome – H.V. Morton

Sailing Alone Around the World – Joshua Slocum

North With the Spring, Journey Into Summer, Autumn Across America, and Wandering Through Winter – Edwin Way Teale (North American geography)
