Does anyone have a 3 day a week schedule for GS?

I just printed off the schedule at Donna Young’s. It is a five-day, but I just check off each day that we do work. My 12yo does science on M, W and Th, and he just completes the next box and checks it off. It’s not “technically” a 3 day schedule, but it’s a schedule that we just use three days. 🙂

now why didnt i think of that…

my 13 yr old does not like doing science every day. he is burning out already at 2 weeks into it.

The 1st year of Apologia is a big learning curve for our family. Especially filling out the study guide questions. Oh boy! I expect it to take quite a while as each child adjusts to the workload. But once they get in the groove with it, it moves along quite smoothly and they learn so much.

Michelle, if you use Donna Young’s 5 day schedule only 3 days a week you won’t finish the book in a year, right? (not that it’s a big deal)

No, we won’t finish in a year. But IMO that is OK. I got the big biology course for my high schooler this year, and talk about a steep learning curve! He is highly motivated, however (firstborn PLUS he wants to be a vet) so he is coping OK. Next son needs a more gradual “intro”! So I got the Apologia General science for him to use over the next two years as a gentle “prep” for biology. 🙂

So you skipped Physical Science? Why, just out of curiosity?

Well, I really only wanted him to do one of the middle-school-level programs, slowly, while reading living books, as a kind of a “prep” for the pretty intense biology course. In looking at the two, I thought General Science fit our goals better; the last full “science course” we had done was the very, very good Physical Science series in the God’s Design series (we love those books!) then last year I got overwhelmed and we only did “Mythbuster science” LOL My kids are very self-motivated in science so they did a lot, I just gave them books and materials and experiment ideas and let them have fun while I concentrated on getting my youngest son reading and pronouncing properly. Kind of lazy, but I knew the older ones would still do lots of science that way (they did!) So anyway, the last organized thing they had done was Physical Science. I thought General might give him a good “overview” and “practice course” to get ready for that big, fat, biology book!
