I’ve decided to get organized and start SCM with my will be 7 yr old son and 6 yr old daughter next spring (other younger siblings can just listen:) after collecting books and getting a schedule ready.  I’ve read through sample schedules, looked up scheduling on the forum, but can’t seem to find details on how to break down books into assigned readings, etc.  How do I know how fast to go through a book, or how much of the year it should take?  (I was first planning on using Ambleside, which had a clear schedule laid out, but like this approach better for our family) I know it’s a flexible method but I just don’t want to miss teaching them things they need to know.  Hope that made sense, sorry if I missed some obvious information regarding this question, thanks so much!

This is a section on a series of blogs on how to plan your curriculum.  Reading the whole thing will be beneficial, but this part deals with how to break up the books over the year.  If you can get the dvd Sonya has on planning your cirriculum.  Its the same as this blog, but she really lays it out and explaines it for you. HTH.
