Help, please.  I have several items pinned that I want to use.  I have them placed in the appropriate boards, etc. and have begun the process of moving them to our current curriculum board when it occurred to me that there will be several pins in one place. I have thought of making yet more boards to keep things organized (I like my duckies firmly lined up in a row), and to help keep things straight when I am having a rough time physically as there are still issues that haven’t completely cleared up yet.  However, I am afraid that even that will cause some problem as the amount of science pins alone could be quite overwhelming as I am working ever more dilligently to make it and others more of living subjects.  I have thought about making a master list, but truth be told, I am still adding to some of those boards and adding to the ones I will use, though, ideally that is what I’d prefer.

While I used several last year and kept things fairly neat it really was no where near the amount I have pinned and plan to use this year, and I became a bit overwhelmed as we wrapped up our year. In th end, there were some pins that I really wanted to use that were left by the wayside. While it’s not the end of the world, by any means, I did spend the time looking for the pins, and really wanted to use them. There is a part of me that feels that I wasted the time spent looking for them since they weren’t used.  This is silly, I suppose, but true.

I received a tablet as a Mother’s Day/ Anniversary gift from my kids and husband, and have thought that perhaps there is a way to utilize that to help me keep things more organized.  However, I am still figuring things out, and haven’t quite determined if that is a dream or a reality.  At any rate, please share your tried and true ways for keeping your pins in order other than a board for current curriculum – or even ideas for how it might be done with a minimum of fuss and prep – so that they get used when you intend.

Edited to add that I have two girls who will be using different science, writing, and some history and math pins.  I also have one that will be adding to her photography elective with some additional pins, and one that will have both violin and piano related pins.  Those combined with artist, painting, composer, music, timelines, and Bible pins equals quite a bit, and much more than I used last year. Not sure if that is helpful in formulating ideas that would work, but thought I should include the variety just in case.

I only use pinterest a tiny bit so I cannot help with that but maybe a different system would not be as frustrating?

Are you using it as sort of a hs planner/curriculum tracker?

I use SCM’s Planning Your Charlotte Mason Education to effectively plan multi resources for multi students and save my sanity. No pin board could live up to it in my little opinion 😉

maybe getting the e book for your tablet will help you figure out a way to get that pin board system working for you….I know it will certainly help you sort through and manage the work you do want to get done with them for sure.

Well, I must confess I have a lot of pins.  I broke my science up into categories like geology, human body, astronomy, and sometimes by book.  For example, my older boys are using Apologia General Science so I have boards for Module 1, 1 for Module 2, 1 for Module 3, etc.  History is broken down into time periods…ancient, middle ages, current, etc.  When I go to plan I take a look at what is on my shelves, I look through my book lists of recommended readings for that topic, and hit my Pinterest boards.  Then I schedule it all out and off we go.  I usually plan several months in advance so I have time to hunt stuff down, make it, buy it, whatever.  If it’s history and we’re using the SCM guide books I write down my additional ideas on post-it notes and stick it in the margins.  For a science spine, I stick post-its where I want to add activities/movies/additional books.  If it’s just a study we made up like “let’s learn about ponds” I just note all my resources on a piece of paper and work our way through them.

Perhaps not the most elegant but it works for me!

@Alicia – I use pinterest to keep thumbnail pics of my bookmarks.  In general it is a faster way, for me at least, to get my hands on what I want.  I am not using it for just keeping my curriculum links in order, but actually pinned links that are videos, blogs, or extra reading from techy journals and so on.

I have SCM’s PYCME. I think I’m getting a touch frustrated because I continue to add to my pins that will be used for this coming year.  If I find a really good link, I add it even though I’ve planned my year.  The other frustration is the number of pins for this year.  I al ready have my boards broken up into sub boards – ie. CM – History – Ancient Egypt, CM – Science – Biology, etc. I think I’m overthinking this.  I was so tired the other night that I was copying things that didn’t need to be.  Sigh.

However, I’m just trying to cut down on the amount of time it takes me to get to what I want to view.  I think I just need to cut myself some slack and leave things as they are right now.  And get some good night’s sleep.

I always get a fresh perspective after a good night’s sleep! As a kid, my mom used to tell me to go to bed and that things would seem better in the morning. 🙂

OK, here’s what I was trying to say and failed miserably. I would like all of my stuff easily accessible and have a listing of the times I have.  I am trying to keep things as organized as possible.  While I have separate boards, some of them are quite full even though they are separated out.

I think that I have figured out a system, though it’s not really what I was after.  Perhaps in my spare time (ha!) I’ll figure out a program that will list pins to be printed out.

What about adding dates to your board titles? Like CM Science 2014/15…. or CM History Grade 6…. KWIM? so that you pin onto the history board for the year you are thinking of using it. Then, when you search your boards by 2014/15 all THAT years curriculum will come up to print off?

@crazy4boys….Wow….you are so organized with Pinterest & your school planning. I have only used Pinterest a little, just started a few months ago by slapping together a few boards, putting a button for it on my bookmarks bar, and that’s about it.

    Like I said, wow….
