In the used section of my HS bookmstore I came across a most fascinating book. It is actually a living economics book. It was written in the early 80’s by a Libertarian, Associate Professor of economics and Political science at Hawaii Pacific Univ. in addition to other areas of experience.
It’s called “The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey” by Ken Schoolland. The age range is ages 10+. I haven’t read through it yet, but it’s in the recommended company of Atlas Shrugged and Penny Candy. I am holding on to my copy for my children when they get to the right age. Thought I would share my find as free market ideas are so hard to come by these days and must be taught for our country to survive and prosper; thankfully a living book does exist to help in that purpose. It can be found on Amazon.

Mysterious Lady in PinkParticipantThank you so much for posting this! I absolutely love this topic, but had not heard of this book. It’s on my list now! 😉
Doug SmithKeymasterThat sounds very interesting. Here’s the link to it at Amazon: The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey and here’s a way to see if it’s available at your local library.
meaganParticipantIt said the closest library that has this to me is in Australia
🙂
TailorMadeParticipantHave any of the rest of you added this to your economics study? How did it work out?

Doug SmithKeymasterIt’s much more about government and laws than it is economics. The beginning wasn’t bad but it then gets into libertarian views of anything goes on a personal level and why do governments interfere and make things like drug use and prostitution illegal. Parts could be useful but proceed with caution.
BookwormParticipantI looked this up, too, after the first mention. It was *ok* but IMO not nearly as well done as the Russell Roberts books I’ve used for years as living books for econonics. It seemed a little forced, as a story, to me. That said, it’d be a good inclusion along with other things.
TailorMadeParticipantWe’ll just stick with the tried and true. Thanks for the reviews.
