Shelly-  Where in Brazil were you?  We seem to have more and more in common all the time!  I was on the outskirts of Sao Paulo for a little while working in a home for street kids, then up the Rio Negra about 3 hours from Manaus by boat.  What an incredible country!  Portuguese is such a fun language to learn, though I only remember greetings now because it’s been 12 years since I was there.  It certainly is true that if you don’t use it, you lose it!

    Hey Rachel,

I was in the state of Espirito Santo, in the city of Victoria…about 200 miles north of Rio. I taught ESL classes at two area churches. I had no idea where I was going to be..so I thought I would be roughing it as a missionary in the jungles of Brazil..well I was “roughing” it in a penthouse condo on the beach. I guess someone “had” to do it Wink

These words are cognates. English is similar to Spanish just like it’s similar to Italian, French, Latin, and German. English came from the influences of all these languages. Therefore, we have many of the same sounds for the same concepts. LangLearner  Lessons allow people from all levels to learn or re-learn the most important things for getting by in another language. You can visit and learn online Languages. I’m learning Foreign Languages with this tool, and it’s very helpful.
