Has anyone done a lapbook with their younger students when using the history modules? I’m thinking on doing this with my 6 yo. It’s new to me, so I’m just thinking of ideas…like doing one each term or just keep one for the whole year doing big events or things she finds interesting. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I printed one out on ancient Egypt (from Homeschoolshare.com)…we haven’t actually used any of the pages yet and are in Term 2.  Embarassed  When we do lapbook pages, we tend to take quite a bit of time.  I prefer notebook pages since there isn’t as much cutting and pasting.

I schedule 2 notebook pages a week (one Bible and one either history or science).  For these I’ve been using History Scribe pages from Currclick and the free Apologia pages or a half lined/half blank paper like this:  http://donnayoung.org/penmanship/blank-top-paper.htm .  For these they copy a Bible verse, draw a picture, and/or write a couple sentences for narration.  For Apologia, I use the notebook assignments at the end of each chapter.

My 6yo actually skips these, but she’s still in K.  I’ll probably have her start working on some for 1st.  I often skip our copywork for the day if they’ve done a bunch of writing on their notebook pages.

Thanks, Holly! Notebooking pages is a good idea. If I do a lapbook, I’ll probably come up with things myself for her to put in it and keep it pretty simple, I don’t want it to be too time consuming. She loves cutting, coloring, pasting so I thought some of that might be good to do while I’m reading to her to keep her hands busy.

We just did our first year, Mod 5, 1st grade, and just did notebook pages. Sometimes she would tell me about what we read, other times she would want to draw a picture. It was a very casual notebook, but she enjoyed it.
