Does anyone use SCM History but modify to read books faster than schedule says

We love SCM History, Geography & Bible, but the only thing I really don’t care for is that sometimes books are only scheduled to be read once a week.  We really enjoy reading books more often than that.  Either daily or several times a week.  I don’t care for a gap in between readings.  Does anyone modify the SCM History schedule.  How do you do this?

This sounds like a good problem to have.  😉

My suggestion would be to introduce the book when it’s first scheduled in the guide at go at your own pace.  If you get to the end of the term early, you could add an extra book or two.  There are optional books in the links and tips product page of each history guide.

One think to keep in mind is that Charlotte recommended they have time between their readings to dwell upon their books.  So you don’t want to go too fast or they miss out on this thinking time.  I’m not saying you are doing this, just that it’s something to consider as you go.

Thank you, Holly, and very good point about them having time to think about what they have read.  There are times where a book is scheduled 2 or 3 times a week.  That is a much better fit for us.  After a week has gone by, we have to really refresh.  We are reading so many books between history and geography and science and read alouds.  It’s a good problem to have I suppose.  I am trying to figure out how to move more quickly through the books that are scheduled once a week while following the rest of the lesson plans.  Essentially I am moving ahead on those books but following the plan for the rest.  I also use the CM Organizer and so I can’t mark of lessons in the future until they show up.  That’s a secondary issue.  Sigh 🙂
