diagramming review…necessary or not?

    My rising 7th grader finished Get Smart Grammar (which is all diagramming) last year.  She’s doesn’t retain information super well and I’ve been debating about whether to purchase Stay Smart Grammar for more diagramming review.  Is it important for her to actually remember the various parts of speech or is thorough exposure to them enough?

    In my experience, I never understood parts of speech, grammar, punctuation, kinds of phrases, etc., until I took Latin in high school.  I did about two weeks of cursory diagramming in 7th grade (and never before or since).

    I think seeing it in action is significantly more effective than diagramming or rote exercises.

    And…my BA is in English.  😉

    Maybe you could play Mad Libs for a fun review.

    I am not familiar with Get Smart Grammar.
