  • I am sort of new to this. I have been studying SCM and Ambleside. Have any of you compared the two? What are your thoughts. Any feedback would be welcome as I sort out plans for the next year. My children are 12, 10, 7. Thanks for any advice or help.

    Hi, elizabethrose –

I’m so glad that you’re thinking through what would work best for your precious family! That’s great, because we don’t view SCM and AO as “either or” but as lots of suggestions that you can pick and choose from.

Here are a few thoughts from another thread on this forum with some details and guidelines that helped other CM families in their selections. And I’m sure you’ll get more ideas from everybody too.

I have used both. I prefer SCM because of a few things. One I truly believe that SCM puts discipling our children primary over AO. I also like that my children are all learning about the same time period. Plus it seems with SCM we are doing things together more as a family than AO. But, with that said. I do pull things from AO and add them in to what I am using at SCM. I would highly recommend that you spend time on both sites and learn all you can. I would then take that information and present it to your husband for his input and during all this I would pray for the Lord’s direction for your family.
