DD17 started Math-U-See Geometry in the summer so she could get through that and Algebra 2 by the end of this year.  She is pretty good in math and was really doing fine with geometry until she reached lesson 25, where they learn proofs.  From that point on, she has found it difficult to fill in the proper statements and reasons in the chart for each problem.  She’ll get either some of it correct or most of it correct, but not enough to do well on the test.

It’s been about 42 years since I took high school geometry, and even though I was good in math at that level, I barely remember what I learned in geometry.  (I remember liking algebra better!)  So I am at a loss as to how to help her, and the small print in the instruction manual is very difficult for me to read due to vision problems.

Would Khan Academy be of some help to her?  Maybe something else?  I would appreciate any suggestions you have.

First, has SHE watched the MUS dvd lessons for proofs? Have her rewatch them and see if that helps.

Then, have her read the MUS teacher’s manual lessons for proofs. See if that helps.

I would guess that between those two she will ‘get it’.

If none of it helps there are videos on KhanAcademy, sign up for a free account and search Geometry proofs.
