  • Hi,

I’m a home school mom of 4 children. Ages 15yr., 12yr., 10yr., and 8yr. I have been home schooling for 9yrs now. My 15yr. and 12yr., do most of their studies on their own. They need me only for directions and grammar. We just switched to Analytical Grammar, which I love, they don’t. My 2 younger ones need me a lot for their studies. My question is, I would like to know other home schooler’s schedules. What subjects do you do everyday, which one’s do you do once or twice a week?

Even though I have dropped certain subjects to twice a week, I am still stressing some days!!!!!

    KJ,

I think we all can relate!! We have three, ages 17, 11, and 8. We are constantly revising and refining our schedule. What has helped me the most (and I have tried many techniques, etc.) is SCM’s Planning Your Charlotte Mason Education. I used Managers of their Homes before I found this website, and it was helpful at the time, but looking back I think God used it as a stepping stone to help me become more disciplined with routine. Planning Your Charlotte Mason Education is (in my opinion) an excellent resource that helps you find a balance in your home education and helps you find what works for your individual family’s needs. It has helped me relax and breath whereas before I felt like I wasn’t doing enough ‘school’.

You can download a free sample from the SCM home page to see the content.

It has been a HUGE blessing for me..THANK YOU Sonya!!

Having said that, we do the basics (reading, writing and arithemetic) 4-5 days a week; read alouds as a family 4-5 days a week; science 2-3 days a week; Bible and scripture memory 5 days; poetry, picture study, music study, and nature study each get 1 day per week. We still need to incorporate history for our younger ones. Let me emphasize that we did not start out doing this schedule all at once. We followed the steps in “How do I make the transition to using the CM approach” found in the Getting Started link on the home page of this website.

I said a prayer for you and your family!! He is the giver of Peace!!! (even though a storm rageth around us!!!! hee hee)

    I have 6 children, ages 10, 9, 7, 5, 2.5 & 2wks. So they are a bit younger than yours but I thought I’d mention our schedule.

Daily (we school 4 days a wk) – Religion study, History/Geo/Bible, Scripture, copywork, grammer, reading, spelling, math (all these sounds like a lot but not when they are only doing

10-15min each, some even less maybe 5 minutes) & piano. And by law PE

1 day a week – Music, Poetry, Picture, Nature studies, rosary, Literature as a family, handicraft (something specific) 2x’s a wk science

Thank you! To everybody who responded to my scheduling needs. I do have Charlotte Mason’s “How to teach each school subject using Charlotte Mason methods”. I definitely feel like our scheduling has come a long way since we have been using Simply Charlotte Mason. I guess I need to listen to the DVD’s again. LOL

I also get those feelings of “I’m not teaching them enough” symdrome! LOL

Thank you again, for all your input.
