    Cindie~ (and anyone else)

I print out the sheets and my 9 year old does everything he can do on his own first.  Mostly this amounts to readings and copywork.  He stops between readings to come narrate to me.  Once a week I am having him write a narration, as this is more difficult for him.  His mother-guided subjects are Math, Grammar, and Spelling.  We also have Family Studies after lunch or in the evenings.  My 13 year old is quite mature and a box checker by nature.  She is more uptight than I am LOL, so I always know her work is done.  She orally narrates some, but really prefers to write.  She has no trouble doing Math and Grammar herself.  In fact I wouldn’t be much help with the level of math she is doing…..she would have to ask her dad Wink.  The excitement my older kids have about their lessons and their strong desire to know more makes independence easy and this gives me the time I need with my 5 year old.  Self-education is really a great gift that we can give our children that will serve them well into adulthood.

At this stage I prescribe the amount… but my son is only 7.

The URtheMom person (don’t have time to check her name) wrote an article that she offered for free on another board, and I did get it.  You may want to email her and see if she will give it to you?

She starts out with her children prescribing what they do, and they check it off.  But once they are to a certain agegrade, she transitions them to goal setting, and them choosing how much to do on any particular day… with the requirement that they must do SOMETHING in each subject every day.
