Have any of you used materials from this company?  Which books did you like, and why?  I’m looking for short, sweet, fun, interesting….just a few minutes each day to help teach a different type of thinking than they already use.  Math, science, language, critical thinking…anything is fair game!

    Thanks.

    Mindbenders!

Heather, we’ve used Mindbenders in the past, too. The boys enjoyed it, though it is a bit challenging, especially if you’ve not done these before. (We did grade one book when eldest was in grade 2 and he found it challenging yet still enjoyable) Not sure I’d do it daily though, the exercises are quite repetitive, so your kids might burn out quickly if you did it more than 3x per week. Just my two cents.

We do these on Friday’s just for fun. We have used or are using Hands On Thinking Skills, Mind Benders, Think A Minutes, and Dr. Doo Riddles (which they love to see who can get the answer first), I would agree that Andrea that you don’t want to do them everyday as the kids would get bored of them. Overall I think they are great to get them thinking and to use in finding alternative methods of problem solving.

We have the Word Roots CD-ROM, which I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. It gives the boys something on the computer, which they crave and we limit, and it grades for me. Laughing It REALLY did improve our oldest son’s vocabulary and writing and though he didn’t love it, I saw proven results. I will be ordering the next level for him to complete in the fall.

With both the CD-Roms and books, they are NON-consumable, which is a big + if you will be using with multiple children.

I do recommend the Word Roots, but we used the CD-Rom (I think the book is much the same). If your child doesn’t love workbooks, the CD-Roms might be an alternative.

I just want to chime in and say that we have a child that needed to go through vision therapy and the therapist said that they highly recommend these sorts of books.
