At what age did your children begin instruction with these lessons? Any moms/dads using them, too? Is there only one lesson per title, or are there several lesson “steps?”

    Likes/dislikes? TIA

Here’s another thread where I answered those questions and then some – look several posts down the page.

We started last spring with The Turtle. My boys were 4 and 6, and I did it, too. There are several steps for the project, and Sharon is warm, personable, knowledgable and encouraging. I ordered the entire Level 1 set, and LOVED her Dick Blick shopping list. Piece of cake!

We will probably do Peaceful Lake (pastels) next. I think it’s great instruction, and really neat projects.

Is this a resource that would work well in a co-op setting? Is that even an option?

It works great in a co-op setting, but there is a co-op fee of $50 per DVD so you’ll have to determine if that’s something your co-op can swing.  As another option, Sharon has invited people to allow one other family to participate with theirs in using the videos at their own home without paying the co-op fee.  Even with the co-op fee the cost is still minimal for the quality of lessons you are getting.

That’s a generous offer for co-op/individual use. Dividing it across co-op participants is a very reasonable price. Each family would need to provide their own supplies, or that would be divided and pre-paid. Thanks for your helpfulness.

Between this thread and the newer “art” thread, I know we will use these next year at home. Whether we use it in co-op, or not, I’m certain this is going to be a good fit for our family. Thanks for the helpful information!

Be sure to check out Creating a Masterpiece on Facebook too.  They are giving away prizes for sending in pictures of your child with completed projects – See contest info below.  It’s a really small, new company, so if you enter every month I can’t imagine that you won’t win after a few months!  Last month they gave away all of the supplies for completing the silk dye – an awesome prize!  This month is a tote with a picture of your child’s artwork on it.

    Sharon’s Challenge for September 2013

    1. Pick any DVD project you want to complete and begin working on it.

    2. Complete it according to Sharon’s rules and regulations – no more than one lesson per day.

    3. Take your time and do your very best! Next month Sharon will have a special challenge using what you learned from this month’s project. The more time and effort you take this month, the better you will do next month!

    4. Send a picture of you holding it and smiling to camartchallenge(at)gmail(dot)com. Remember to add your name, age and address to the email.

    5. Sharon will post a variety of well done projects on Facebook, her student galleries and possibly her advertisements.

10 special prizes will be awarded this month. This month’s prize is a tote bag that will have the recognized project sublimated onto it! (So this month take a picture of the student with the project, and one close up picture of the project itself)

This is a great resource for the whole family. We do the lessons together – from Kindergarten – 7th grade. I do the work as well. I think that anyone can learn something new from watching Sharon’s technique.

And yes, it is divided (kind of). She teaches, then there is a time for you to pause and work on a lesson. I think this would work very well in a co-op setting except for one thing: You are working primarily on mastering ONE project/drawing. So parents and some kids might get a bit frustrated working on the same project week after week. But if you used several of the DVD’s spread over the course of several weeks, it would work well.
