Can anyone recommend a couple of books that would cover Countries and Cultures pretty well?  We were thinking maybe A Trip Around the World, Another Trip Around the World, and Windows on the World.  Any better ideas?  This would be for 1st and 3rd grades.  Or a good library list maybe?  Thanks!

This is probably one of my favorite book lists for exploring countries and cultures. We also used A Child Like Me, A School Like Mine, etc. DK has several in this line.  www.ourjourneywestward.com/geography-living-literature/

We LOVED Children Just Like Me, not sure if that is the same one Tristan mentioned. Maybe also What the World Eats, my library had it. You might also check out My Fathers World and Sonlight, I think they both have a Countries and Cultures year. You could hijack some of their book ideas……We enjoyed reading about missionaries for whatever region we were studying.

My Father’s World has a year long geography course that includes a good book list. Also, you could try “Give Your Child the World” by Jaime C Martin for lots of book recommendations in each region.

A School Like Mine, Children Just Like Me, A Life Like Mine, Children Just Like Me: Celebrations – those are the four I have.

Also, when your kids are older we used Hungry Planet:What the World Eats, Material World: A Global Family Portrait, and Man Eating Bugs. (Preview that last one, there was one picture I remember we used sharpie to color shorts on a man – indigenous and not wearing any. Ahem.)
