Does anyone have experience with Compass Classroom American History and Modernity?  What are your thoughts? Did the kids enjoy it? Retain information? Is it too time involved? Is the reading material good? Boring?  How is the content?

I like the video component of it and think my DD would do well with that.  I wasn’t as sure about the book.  I think my DD also could use some assignments besides narration.  As much as I love the concept of narration I don’t feel like we are excelling with it.

My son will be using American in 9th next year.  We are contemplating adding the class Roman Roads offers based on it.  This son needs more than narration and prefers video or textbooks to living books. A lot. It looks to be a good fit for him.  If so, he will use Modernity the following year.

    Hi!

We haven’t used the DVD’s, but I know the teacher and have visited his live classes numerous times. He is an amazing teacher. My husband and I both wanted to join the class. 😊

All three of my children will be likely taking live classes with him in the next few years. So while I can’t vouch for the DVD’s yet, I can vouch for him as a person and a teacher and his reputation here in town is quite remarkable. Several of my friends have used the DVD’s and speak highly of them and said if you follow the syllabus and do all the assignments, it’s quite challenging. I bet the Roman Roads class mentioned would be awesome!  Have you looked at the samples on the website?

    Hope that helps somewhat!

    Thanks for the input.

I decided to give this a try and maybe add in some living books.
