I think someone from SCM answered this question, but I can’t recall.  Would someone share again … Why can’t we go back in to all the old dates and edit either the work done or the notes for that day?

When we originally designed the CM Organizer we thought that school records should be a permanent record that couldn’t be tampered with—kind of like financial records that can be audited.

We’ve since learned from all of you how unimportant that is and it would be better to have editing for convenience. Smile So we agree that it is something we need, but we simply have not built the feature yet.

This would be a great feature.  So far it’s the only thing I’ve found with the CM Organizer that doesn’t work for me.  I have two small children.  I forget things. 😉

Thanks Doug.  I’m so sorry that I didn’t see this response and say thank you.  I would absolutely love to be able to edit at will any date at any time.  I just can’t seem to keep the SCMO open while I’m schooling and so I forget to enter things and once you get too far … it’s just a mess.  Plus you can’t add any basic notes to a date after it passes and I love to do that.  We play hooky all the time but some part of it is educational and if I forget at night to add a note about the details of what we did that option is gone.  I had to add a resource called Playing Hooky and then go back in there to add things but it’s not the same.

I want SCMO to work like the SCM calendar does only with the cool scheduling aspect too.

Claire, what do you mean by “the SCM calendar?” I am not aware of such a thing! Please advise.

Those beautiful calendar journals that Sonya has for sale on this site.  I used them to record our days for the first several years.  I’d simply journal what we did that day.  I had a framework for the week – what we did and on what day – but then i’d simply move through the weeks writing down what we covered each day, menus, moods and developmental changes, activities on non school days, etc.

I like the SCMO but really I use it as a record keeping spot more than a “keeping us on track” spot. That seems to make a difference in terms of what we’d like to see it do.

I specifically got on here tonight to search out the answer to this same question. I would LOVE if we could go back and edit previous days. Many times I am schooling my boys and forget to even have my computer next to me to record what we do. I use the CM organizer for record keeping mostly and also to make sure that I’m on track. I often forget to record what we’ve done until the next day, and then I have to check each item for both days on one, and it really throws off my record keeping. So, I agree that the CM Organizer would be absolutely perfect if we could edit all the previous days!!! I can’t wait until you add in this feature! God bless you!

You can mark things done on a previous day…. beside the place where you mark ‘worked on’ or ‘finished’, there is an arrow. Click on that and you can see the previous week with places to click on those days. At the left of that week there is a place to click on a little calendar to add earlier dates if needed.

You just can’t edit finished resources, or very easily earlier finished divisions.

Our desire is to be able to click on July 17 and be able to edit anything entered in SCMO that day or to add lessons done that day and not entered.  Yes, you can click the arrow and go back in time and enter a lesson as done but it’s all out of whack with what lesson you really did.  This happened to me today.

I forgot to enter something done in Current Events on April 23.  Yes, I can simply click on that date on the calendar feature and show an assignment done that day BUT if I’ve taken the time to enter Current Event divisions with details in to the SCMO then when I do that the lesson entered as done on that date is not the lesson we did on that date and now it’s all very inaccurate in terms of content but yes, a lesson being done has been recorded.  Not exactly ideal.

SCM team can we please have subjects called Plutarch and instead of Music have Composer Study, Hymn Study, Folksongs?  Pretty please with sugar on top?

If the lesson you did on that date isn’t scheduled, you can schedule just that one lesson for today with the divisions selector in the Scheduler, then use the calendar in the Daily Plan to mark it off for the day you actually did it. That way you’ll get the lesson you actually did marked off for the correct day.

To keep the subject list from getting unwieldy, we’ve intentionally limited it to general subject names. Plutarch would fit under History, and Composer Study, Hymn Study and Folk Songs all fit under Music. We do have adding your own subjects on the wish list of features to build in the future, and that would be like the custom study methods feature, where you can add as many as you like without affecting anyone else’s list.

I’m sorry.  I don’t really understand this Jordan. But I’m working in there today so I’ll try to play around a little and understand it better.  I certainly don’t know everything there is to about SCMO!  Thanks for the reply.  I only asked for those specific break outs for subjects because they were so original to CM’s studies.  I totally understand what you’re saying too.  Thanks for all you do.
