    Hi,

I am working on gathering materials for my 9th grade student. In researching the suggestion for Biology, the link take me to Berean Books and not Apologia for Biology. I looked at the Apologia website, and they still have Biology as well. So, I’m curious which one you are suggesting, the Berean publisher or Apologia?

I would also love to hear feedback on the Science Shepherd Biology. I am not familiar with this. The Apologia worked well for us last year with Physical Science. So, I would only want to switch if there was a benefit.

    Thanks

    Angie

We now link to Berean Builders because they sell just the textbooks we recommend and not the notebooks that Apologia developed to go with the texts, which we don’t recommend. (Berean Builders does not publish the Apologia textbooks; they just sell them.) We no longer recommend Apologia’s chemistry course, but do recommend Dr. Wile’s chemistry course, Discovering Design with Chemistry, published by Berean Builders. Also, Dr. Wile offers online classes and video on demand lessons through Berean Builders.

Science Shepherd’s biology course is an alternative to Apologia’s biology course for those who would rather not do Apologia. You can read our comparison of the two courses, if you have not already done so.

Wanted to add that there are also other alternatives such as the online science courses at https://experiencebiology.com/ and https://compassclassroom.com/curriculum-by-subject/#jumptoscience

My 9th grader is currently using “The Riot and the Dance” textbook with the online Experience Biology course, and that seems to be a good fit for us at this point. I have heard from other homeschool parents that Apologia works for them.

I guess it just comes down to what works for your family.
