  • I am looking for a Charlotte Mason type curriculum for LA, with Canadian books or that have Canadian content. Sonlight looks like a great program, but I would love there to be books in a Canadian setting , and Canadian characters.  Anybody have this issue?

I don’t know of one…. I’ve been doing my best to make my own…..

There are some suggestions on the AO site on the Canadian Users page…..

We also find the need to design our own studies that we want to be mainly Canadian in content. There are some out there, but none I have seen (for any subject) have really ever been what I was hoping for. So, we put in the time and make what we want ourselves! Sorry I can’t be more helpful to you! I have been somewhat disappointed in the CM offering of canadian materials out there, myself. But over time I have been able to get more proficient at designing exactly what I want in a course of studies and it can get to fun, actually! : ).

Hope you end up with something you are pleased with!

    Blessings!

I’m not sure what age your children are, but Come Sit by Me is probably the closest thing I can think of. It’s kind of the Canadian version of Five in a Row. I previously had it and was so excited about this Canadian option, but found in the end it wasn’t the perfect fit for our family. I’ve also just made up my own Canadian content.

    Hope that helps some,

What are you looking for?  Spelling?  Literature?  Comprehension?  Copy Work? Something all in one?  Have you got a model (pre-existing published curriculum) in mind that would help people know what you are looking for.  And for what ages?

My children are 8 and 9, we are teaching at a grade 3 level for both.  “Come sit by me is” a little young for them.  Sonlight sounds perfect minus the american emphasis.  We are very interested in learning through books.

    Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to jump in and say hi. I too, am trying to create a “canadian studies” CM curriculum. Right now, I have lots of titles but don’t know how to make them into lists/data base. Check out Shelf 49 for lots of great modern lit. Canadian Homeschooler has a link to “Nicola’s” page with a good start.

If anybody is interested in collaborating on compiling lists/creating scope and sequence- I’d be very interested.

    d:)
