Can anyone tell me about this collection? With what ages have you used it?

If you didn’t like, why? What would you recommend instead?

    Thanks, Rachel

Tried reading it in its spot on the AO rotation when my oldest two were that age.  I think maybe years 4-6?  They both HATED it.  My oldest wrote a very persuasive essay one time when I assigned him an essay, arguing that we were spending too much time on heathen beliefs.  I finally discontinued it.  We did the much lower-key Tanglewood books along with the D’Aulaire book on myths, and we use the Age of Fable as a reference when we encounter an allusion in poetry or literature and want to remind ourselves of the story.

That said, my older two boys wish now that they have taken the National Latin Exam a time or two that they had paid more attention and read more mythology, as there have been mythology questions each time they take the test, and our Latin book does not cover many of them.

Okay, I’m glad you chimed in; that’s what I needed to know. I will consider Bulfinch as a reference, not as a read aloud, then. You made a reference to another post I created; maybe you can assist me here.

Mine are 9 and 10; should I read A Wonder Book and Tanglewood Tales then The Heroes by Kingsley? I looked at the contents and they seem to be, for the most part, different stories. Or just the first two or just Kingsley? Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Rachel

I jumped ahead and asked you here before waiting for your response to the other post. You don’t have to repeat yourself, Bookworm; your decision. I read your response in the other post.

    Thanks,

    Rachel
