I was just wondering if any of you would throw some ideas out on the following:

Because there are specific virtues I want to focus on, I have decided not to order any one particular book to aide in implementing a virtue building “program”. I really like Ben Franklin’s little book of charts he used to track his progress and how he continually rotated each virtue he wanted to give strict attention to, throughout his life. I haven’t figured how many we will rotate this ‘year’, but I really like the idea of returning to each one over and over. My thoughts are to pick a virtue to strictly watch for a month (or less – what do you think?), read some books (literature) that give examples of the virtue, incorporate pertinent scripture memorization, copywork, dictation, and anything else we can throw in that will cover other desired learning points. This will be quite a bit of ‘putting together’ at first, but once we’ve gone through each virtue selected for the first time, it should just be a matter of adding new books, ideas, etc.. that were discovered. I made up a notebook to keep notes on each virtue we select and I’m thinking the children could have some type of notebook that contains any thoughts or written narrations. (??)

Anyone’s added ideas or do’s/don’ts would be much appreciated. 🙂

PS: I am already planning on purchasing Laying Down the Rails because I believe it will give some good direction.

I have enjoyed my copy of Laying Down the Rails and heartily recommend it. Also, have you looked at Doorposts? Plants Grown Up, Polished Cornerstones, and For Instruction in Righteousness are all good, though can be a little overwhelming at first sight.

    Blessings,

    Cindy
