I’d like to recommend this book. I had selected Much Ado about Nothing at the beginning of the year and we just never got to it. We decided we’d invite some of the neighbors to read this with us (also homeschoolers). They are loving it (we’re doing this in four 2-hour lessons).

I wanted to recommend Brightest Heaven because, as I dug a little deeper into Much Ado, I found that some people do not like it because it is based on deception and a ‘seeming’ adulterous affair. Well, this author nails so many wonderful points. I am thankful that we’re doing this because the older students are really on the verge of adulthood and all that entails. He brings out great points for those that will likely be in a courtship relationship some day. It’s good, deep stuff. I am not recommending Much Ado, per se, as I am using it as a vehicle for recommending Brightest Heaven. The selection of plays would have to be one’s own.

Oh, and I can tell the children are enjoying it because Shakespeare is now all over Facebook. 🙂

    Blessings,

    Cindy

We have used Brightest Heaven as well, and it has been a wonderful addition to our Shakespeare studies. I too highly recommend it. Blessings, Linda

I’m glad to hear it recommended so highly, Cindy and Linda. It is on my shelf but I haven’t looked at it yet; my two oldest and I are doing Macbeth this year. (gulp)

Much Ado is my favorite Shakespeare play, incidentally. 🙂

I too love Much Ado Bookworm, it is such a clever play. I think you will love Brightest Heaven, it is a real treat and it most definitely is not twaddle, just a great help. Hope you enjoy it – Macbeth is also a tremendous play worth seeing if you get the chance. Linda

We’d love to. OK, not for my 9yo, but still. 🙂

We saw Much Ado a few years ago at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA and it was TREMENDOUS! It was the fastest performance I’ve ever seen–they knew that play so well and they were just really going fast, really made it seem so real, and the Beatrice was so good! We were just in stitches! Even my youngest was totally enthralled. They had a very, very interesting “take” for the costumes–they were dressed as though it were WWII. And they served cocktails from the stage. LOL But it was one of those “never-to-be-forgotten” things. We spent a week in Virginia, doing all sorts of touristy, kid friendly things, but the thing they unanimously voted the best part of the vacation was the Shakespeare Center. A fun CM mom moment!

I did pull out Brightest Heaven today to take a break from writing high school course descriptions (sigh) and it looks like a fabulous tool.

Thank you Cindy for the recommendation. I have really started to enjoy Shakespeare and anything to help that is much appreciated.

Now how is Shakespeare all over FB?

Oh, I meant that my children and the children that are doing this with us are communicating in “Shakespearean” and quoting the play back and forth. It’s worn off a little over yesterday and today, but tomorrow’s another lesson so I’m sure they’ll be back at it. It’s fun.
