Michele, I see that online classes are offered. I’ve emailed and am awaiting a response, but wondered if you have used them. Also, I’m wondering if LitCT can be completed with the online class independently or if it would rely heavily on parental involvement or oversight.

    Thanks,

    Christie

Also, we haven’t covered grammar just yet. Should I hold off on LitCT until we’ve completed a course in grammar?

Hi, Christie!  When I started LitCT, they did not offer the classes, and I probably couldn’t have afforded them anyway.  Then I kind of learned it myself anyway, so we just kept on doing what we’d been doing.  So I have no idea about the classes.  It looks interesting, though.  If Mary approves of these folks and puts them on her page, they probably know what they are doing.  It DOES look like it would be useful if you could supervise the child and look over homework before submission for glaring errors, and you’d probably have to make sure they worked every day they weren’t in class, but it’d sure be nice not to have to know why you use the dative there instead of a preposition, or whatever—you could always just say “Ask the teacher in class tomorrow!”  LOL

About grammar.  Book One does review what is most necessary. You do not have to have an entire grammar completely done, but it WOULD help if your child at least understood clearly subject nouns, direct and indirect objects, and prepositions with objects, and basic verb tenses and conjugation, and the parts of speech.  I actually rely on our Latin to do some of our grammar teaching FOR us.  I like that extra bang for the buck.  We usually start Latin at about age 10 or so (waited a bit longer for my youngest) and then begin a regularized “grammar” program at 12, but I just informally make sure that they understand those basic concepts right before or during beginning Latin instruction.

Thanks, Michele. I think I may give it a try. I am doing some beginning grammar with dd12 now. I will need to make sure I cover those grammar topics before the classes start.
