We listened to Hank on tape and now that you mention it the wording was a little rude.  We don’t really have a problem with that at our house though, so I guess I over looked it.

We tried one Hank book (it was a review) and they will not be read in our house.  We actually did not even finish reading it aloud to the kids.  My review is here, but if you want to know what we objected to, here are the things we found in just ONE Hank book:

    Words:

    • stupid (occurred several times)
    • numbskull
    • dummy (the little boy to his mommy)
    • moron (mom to dog)
    • nasty (calling Hank nasty)
    • heck (“stay the heck out…” and “get the heck away”
    • dope
    • shut up (Hank the Cowdog to Drover his sidekick)

    Scenes:

    • mom screaming (book’s description, not mine) at son several times and spanking
    • people kicking animals
    • mom strangling Hank the cowdog
    • little boy calling mom a dummy

Ahem.  I’m not sure if they’re all like that, but there’s no way I’m going to bother checking any others.  That was book 8, The Case of the One-Eyed Killer Stud Horse, if you were wondering.
