My first book to review is that of The Trumpet of the Swan. What a beautiful book. It is truly a work of art. It transports you and your child into this imaginary world. I love it and my daughter can’t wait to read the next chapter. Love it.

I’m only a few chapters in, but “The Lay of the Land” by Dallas Lore Sharp is absolutely DELIGHTFUL! This man is my kindred spirit. It’s scheduled as a geography book for AO (year 7) but it’s so much more than geography. The author clearly loves being out in nature, and he’s what I think of when I picture someone who has grown up spending lots of time playing in and observing nature. He writes so well that he makes me want to have chickens again. And I hated having chickens! Hahaha!

Lol. you made me laugh. I the idea of having chickens. Since I grew up around them. But, I know how messy they can be, so no chickens here either. On another note, that sounds like an amazing book. I will definitely look into it. thanks for sharing.

What meant to say: I like the idea of having chickens but know the mess they can make.

Adding to the info about the Trumpet of the Swan: It’s about a family of Swans and a young boy. All I’d like to say is that it makes you realize that with perseverance and determination even with a disability anything is possible.

We had them and ducks together. I tried the deep litter flooring of their enclosure. Well, with the ducks’ excessive poop and webbed feet that mashed it all down, there was just a solid layer of poop. My husband would spread a new layer of hay and within hours it would look like a mud puddle. So they all went bye-bye in 2019! On the plus side, after we turned the straw and let it sit for all this time, we now have very rich, fertile soil in that section of the backyard! I’m thinking of doing a “Three Sisters” garden there.
