I have a DD who will be in 4th grade this Fall. I found in a bin of books that I have The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. I have looked both on AO as well as on SCM’s literature list and haven’t seen this book on it. I was wondering if there was a reason for that. I was thinking of letting my DD read it independently (I will not be able to pre-read it) but wanted to see what other moms thought of it first.
I also had the same question for Adam and His Kin- The Lost Histroy of Their Lives and Times by Ruth Beechick.
I am wondering what you ladies think of these books.
Thanks,
Cori
KarenParticipantIMO, Adam and His Kin is more for high school or adult. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, but I chose to not have my 5th grader read it this year. There’s nothing objectionable in it – it’s just meant for older students,I think.
CorrineParticipantThank you Karen.
DesParticipantI agree with Karen’s review of Adam and His Kin. I’ve read The Yearling and I really enjoyed it, I don’t recall anything objectionable in it, i do know that at the end the boy (can’t recall his name) had to kill his pet. If your dd is sensitive that might bother her. HTH.
CorrineParticipantThank you Des.
