    Hi all,

I was wondering if you had any good suggestions for a living book or two related to the story behind our National Anthem. We are going to begin teaching the kiddos next week, hopefully to have it learned by the 4th of July. My kids are ds 7 and dd almost 6, so something simple, not too long, and that explains the song or history behind the song would be perfect.

    Looking forward to your suggestions,

    Lindsey

I have The Story of the Star-Spangled Banner – By the Dawn’s Early Light by Steven Kroll.  Have no idea how CM friendly it is, but it’s short, 30 pages 1/2 picture, 1/2 story. It says it’s age range is 5-9.  I have no idea where I picked it up but it looked good.  If anyone has a better suggestion, I’m all ears as well.  I haven’t read it so I don’t have any opinions about content.  HTH

    Lindsey,

Are you familiar with this book from BF?

I LOVE Peter Spier’s Star Spangled Banner, it is the text of the song with really lovely and engaging illustrations.

Oh, yes, that looks great!  I’m not Lindsey, but I may have to check that out 🙂

A beautiful hard-bound book is Our Flag was Still There by Tracy Leininger.  It has the story behind the song with lovely pictures and the song itself in the back of the book.

Oh, in case it was not clear in my post I was referring to two different books. The first was the one from BF and the second was the one by Peter Spier. Sorry :o)
