I have a wonderful copy of The Complete Book of Marvels by Halliburton. And since we are doing a year of geography around the world using all the Visits to Guides instead of history this year I was wondering if it would be a good fit. I will have a 3rd, 1st, toddler and new born. Will it be too much for them? Should I just plan on waiting until next time to do this in a few years?

Ambleside has this book scheduled in Y5, which is where my son will be in two years when he’s about 13. Obviously it’s up to you but I would probably wait.

We are on our second year using the Book of Marvels.Β  I would definitely wait a few years.Β  It is an excellent book, but I don’t think it will resonate with the kids until they are in the 10-12 age range (and would still be applicable in high school.Β  My oldest is in 9th this year).

Plan to do it, for sure.Β  I’d recommend waiting several years, though.

I just wanted to chime in to say that the Book of Marvels is amazing and has become one of my daughter’s favorites books! I definitely recommend saving it so that your kids can get the most out of it. My daughter was not able to read it until this year in the 9th gradeΒ because I never found a reasonable copy. I found the first part of the book (we have the book divided into two: The Occident and the Orient) at a flea market for $5 and my daughter fell in love with it so I ended up spending a bit too much for the second part. She treasures them both and I know she will read them many times over for years to come.
