Will I need a book of centuries for 1st-3rd?

I noticed in the lesson plan it doesn’t mention it for those grades?

We do a family book prior to 5th grade when the kids start their own book. I continue the family book with the younger ones, which is getting filled in since we have completed 6 years. It is fun, and I am amazed at the connections I now make when it comes to history, people, events happening at the same time.

Helpful to teacher, not just kids 🙂

Edit to add- when we do the family book I do it with the kids. We talk about what we are entering and other events that have already been entered. It was neat to see things “click” when we did ancient history and they could really understand where Bible figures fit in with other historical figures. We learned a lot!

I didn’t see my post so adding one more time…hopefully its not duplicated.  😛

Book of centuries was not started until Form 4 I believe or in high school.  You could start a family chart of the child’s personal history in 2nd grade and then if wanted could possibly start the wall timeline early in 2nd-3rd grade but I wouldn’t do anything for 1st grade.  That is based on Mason’s schedules.  HTH 🙂

Book of Centuries was generally started around grade 4, age 10, or when the child had a good grasp of handwriting.  We, at SCM, enjoy keeping a family book of centuries with our children (old and young).

We have a family BOC for my younger children, and I will probably have my older daughter (entering 6th grade) start her own soon. It’s a great resource to have for the family when we open it up to make an entry and see an instant connection! (For example, pretty much the entire world in my children’s eyes has pre- and post- Louis Pasteur’s germ theory – almost every entry – mommy, so did people know about germs yet then or was this after they started to figure it out?)
