Can anyone recommend a good book about the history behind America’s folk tunes?

    Thanks,

Some of the folk tunes were written by Stephen Foster. There is an Opal Wheeler biography about him, but I don’t know if it is currently in print.

    Sonya,

It is in print from Zeezok Publ. I’m looking for a compiltion style book. I did “Songs that made America Great” from Little Bear Wheeler and Musical Memories from Diane Waring.

Are you familiar with these resources? I don’t know how much history thet incorporate, though these were recommended by my Prairie Primer.

No, I’m not familiar with those. Anybody else know much about them?

I just checked out a book from the library called Fireside Book of Folk Songs.  It has 147 songs and a small bit of history about each one plus the music and lyrics.

    HTH,

    Cynthia
